THE FUNERAL PYRE Unveil Cover of “Vultures At Dawn”

Los Angeles black metallers, THE FUNERAL PYRE have unveiled the cover of their forthcoming album, “Vultures At Dawn,” due June 8, 2010 on Prosthetic Records. Artist Justin Barlett, who did the cover for the band’s 2008 release, “Wounds,” as well as art for Trap Them and Sun0))) among others, is responsible for the layout. The album was recorded by Adam Campbell at Awkward Studios, mixed by Ryan Butler (Landmine Marathon, Misery Index, Phobia) at Arcane Digital and was mastered by Dave Shirk (Incantation, Nile, Today Is The Day) of Sonorous Mastering.

Vocalist John Strachan commented on the artwork: “We asked Justin Bartlett to handle the artwork once again because we felt with the record title and direction of the record, that he could portray the ideas visually. He has done a brilliant job.”

THE FUNERAL PYRE will be announcing summer dates with EARLY GRAVES, as well as information on the band’s CD release show, shortly. The band just returned from a week on the West coast, playing some dates with EARLY GRAVES and playing four of LIGHT THIS CITY’s final shows. In March, they made a trip to Texas and back with LANDMINE MARATHON which included Prosthetic’s South By Southwest showcase on March 17th in Austin and a Brooklyn Vegan SxSW day party at Hoek’s Death Metal Pizza.

Finally the time has come for Garden Of Worm to release a full length album. For quite some time now they've been slowly putting out demos and Eps since 2004 to experiment and carve out their own unique brand of Heavy / Progressive Doom Metal. I'd say they've definitely found their own dramatic sound here with this new material. The elements of Progressive is very dominate, with sounds that range from upbeat to mournful in a blink of an eye. This is an extremely wavy ride to get on and it's going to require repeated listens and your undivided attention to fully absorb and appreciate this work of art. REVELATION / AGAINST NATURE fans will probably be attracted to this album the most as it's similar in the approach, but the execution pans out to be much different.

TRON: Legacy

It's no secret that I am a HUUUUUUUGE TRON fan. I saw the movie when it was released in theatres when I was a kid, spent weeks playing the video games, I collect TRON stuff and just completely love the film. Well, finally.... twenty eight years later, a sequel will be released in 2010. Please do yourself a favor and read the back story to the sequel, which you can find at the TRON wiki.

I saw this over the weekend in IMAX 3D. It all goes by so fast. I am very very very excited about this considering I've been a huge Tron nerd since 1982, and the fact that Joseph Kosinski is directing, with the original director producing and advising. Jeff Bridges is in it playing Flynn and also CLU 2 (a younger version of himself in the computer world), Bruce Boxleitner is in it, and Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack.

Supposedly, it is going to be the most expensive movie made - even more than Avatar. I think this will blow away Avatar though...not that it is hard to do!.

DSmolken (the mastermind behind Dead Raven Choir - wearing the yellow shirt) will now be focusing on music that teenage girls like more.

"It's time to retire from metal to focus on things that girls like more, and I guess I should stop posting here before I just annoy the shit out of everyone and wear out what good will towards me a few people might still have left.

Now, "retire" doesn't mean no more metal albums... I do still have two Dead Raven Choir albums, a Dead Raven Choir 7" and a Wolfmangler album coming out this year, plus more importantly some women's underwear to go along with those, but I don't have any plans to make any new metal recordings at the moment."

Von Music Group is scheduled to start recordings for the debut album from the band VON VENIEN entitled TRIBAL BLOOD. VON VENIEN was created by Venien, the co-creator of the black metal band VON and owner of the independent record label Von Music Group. The debut album, Tribal Blood is tentatively scheduled to be released in Mid November, with a June release date of the title track "Tribal Blood" as a single release with a few special extras. Musically wise, ANIMA MORTE and HOODED MENACE may seem to have little to do with each other: whereas the first one is an instrumental quartet from Sweden recreating with vintage keyboards the purity of 80’s horror movies soundtrack - think ZOMBI switching obsessions and focusing on Italian giallos instead of John Carpenter’s – HM is on the surface a far more vile beast, a truly putrid death/doom band celebrating the long dead spirit of the cursed Templars, aka the Blind Dead, with gurgling vocals (courtesy of PHLEGETHON / CLAWS / VACANT COFFIN Lasse Pyykkö) and heavy-as-fuck six strings from Hell. But both of them were bred on unholy grounds. And both have crossed the Styx, seen the other side and came back to tell the tale. Spooky I hear you say? You haven’t heard anything yet…

The persistent dissolution of the cosmic order precipitates the onset of eternal recapitulation. An awareness of this imminent cycle of destruction and rebirth affords one the ability to reach into the penumbra of the impending chaos without fear. The sound of Kerasphorus contains the seed of this power. It is a sound that violently propounds its triumphant heresy throughout the halls of Heaven. Being the new project of P. Helmkamp (Order From Chaos, Angelcorpse, Revenge), those familiar with his work will find familiar traces in the vocal and bass performance on this EP, but will also witness the unfolding of new dimensions within his work. This is largely due to the collaborative nature of this project. Helmkamp conceived and composed these songs in conjunction with guitarist, B. Wolaniuk. Adding further definition to the work, the legendary J. Read (Cremation, Conqueror, Revenge, Axis of Advance) was recruited as a session drummer to lend his demonic warfare percussion to this recording as well. Emanating from this combination of talent is the most important work of Occult Black Metal to emerge from the U.S. in years. “Cloven Hooves at the Holocaust Dawn” presents an entirely new sound that, while clearly operating within the schematic of modern Black Metal, also incorporates unexpected elements arriving at a sound at once militaristic and metaphysical. Thematically, “Cloven Hooves at the Holocaust Dawn” is steeped in myriad strains of esoteric thought, but is presented with a vigor and severity that is uniquely contemporary and uniquely North American. It is infused with an Occult sensibility without getting lost in its own mysticism. It is intelligent, but avoids self-indulgent and pseudo-intellectual posturing. Indeed Kerasphorus demonstrate a groundedness in their approach to Black Metal that is peculiar and engaging. In this work, one finds a blueprint for confronting apocalyptic ruin with potency and fortitude. As the serpent coils and constricts its body about the universal axis, the blood is drained from the world and the sun occluded and blackened, the universal holocaust begins and, by some, it is welcomed.

Anti Sweden jeans is launching their brutally dark and grim collection made out of recycled Swedish jeans! The collection has strong references to black metal culture and together with cult illustrator Justin Bartlett, this collection pulls together metal pins, colossal dark scarfs, metal thread and old Swedish patches from Cheap Monday and Acne jeans to create something that nightmares are made of. The show will be presented together with intensely dark music composed and performed by, Let Them Eat Decay, along with extreme lead vocalist Runhild Gammelsæter.
